DAY 1: DEPART USA
Depart on an overnight flight to Madrid. Meals will be served on board.

DAY 2: MADRID / PAMPLONA
Arrive in Madrid Airport where we will be met by our Professional Tour Escort and escorted to our motorcoach. Depart to Pamplona where we connect with the St. James Path. Dinner and overnight in Pamplona. (D)

DAY 3: PAMPLONA
After breakfast there will be tour of Pamplona. Visit the cathedral with its exceptional cloister. In the afternoon, drive in the mountainous landscape to Roncesvalles where to see the 13th century church and abbey. Return to Pamplona for dinner and overnight. (B, D)

DAY 4: PAMPLONA / BURGOS
Drive to Burgos. En route, stop to see the 11th century bridge in Puente La Reina, and Estrella, which was created by the kings to become a commercial point on the route to Santiago. In Najera, see the 15th & 16th century Santa Maria la Real, when it was a capital of a Middle Ages kingdom.. In San Millan de la Cogolla see a splendid monastery, considered the birthplace of the Spanish language as the first documents in Spanish were written here. Feel the atmosphere of the medieval traveler in San Juan de Ortega. Dinner and overnight in Burgos. (B, D)

DAY 5: BURGOS
After breakfast enjoy a half-day tour of Burgos, a well preserved town from the Middle Ages. One of the highlights will be a visit to the Gothic Santa Maria Cathedral of Burgos, one of the grandest and most breathtaking in the country. This limestone cathedral is Spain’s third largest cathedral and is where El Cid is buried. Also visit the Cartuja. Lunch on your own. In the afternoon, excursion to Covarrubias, a nice village with a middle ages atmosphere in its streets). Continue to visit the Monastery of Santo Domingo De Silos, a very important center of wisdom and culture in the middle ages and home of the Benedictine Monks whose recordings of Gregorian Chant have helped popularize the Church’s treasury of sacred music. Dinner on your own and overnight in Burgos. (B)

DAY 6: BURGOS / FROMISTA / CARRION CONDES / LEON
After breakfast we start our journey. Stop in Fromista to visit one of the nicest Romanesque churches on the route. Next stop is Carrion Condes where we will visit the Santiago Temple with its Romanesque façade. We end the day in Leon. Leon was the capital of the Christian Kingdom of Leon during the middle ages. It is full of historical remains.  We will visit its superb Gothic Cathedral and the St. Isidoro Chapel and royal burial. Dinner and overnight in Leon. (B, D)

DAY 7: LEON / ASTORGA / CASTRILLO DE LOS POLVAZARES / PONFERRADA
Breakfast at the hotel and continue on the Camino de Santiago. In Astorga we have time to visit the cathedral and the Bishop’s Palace, built by Gaudi. Continue to Castrillo de los Polvazares, a little village but very well preserved local architecture and national monument. In Ponferrada, see the remains of the castle of the Templars, the enigmatic medieval monk-warriors. Also visit the Roman gold mines in Las Medulas and the splendid Penalva Church. Dinner and overnight in Ponferrada. (B, D)

DAY 8: PONFERRADA / VILLAFRANCA / O’CEBREIRO / SAMOS / SARRIA / MONTE DE GOZO / SANTIAGO
Today we will end in Santiago de Compostela. On the way, in Villafranca we see one of churches of the way of St. James. In O’Cebreiro there are still some pre-Roman Celtic houses where the animals and people lived together to keep warm. There also is a middle ages pilgrim hospital where pilgrims had refuge from snow and wolves. Samos has an important monastery we will visit. Monte de Gozo has a hill from which you will see Santiago de Compostela. Dinner and overnight in Santiago. (B, D)

DAY 9: SANTIAGO
After breakfast there will be a morning tour of Santiago. The town grew around the cathedral, and the different bishops filled the city with churches in all styles leading to its declaration as a UNESCO world heritage site. The highlight of the pilgrimage will be a visit to the Cathedral and its museum. Afternoon is free to explore this wonderful town on your own. Dinner and overnight in Santiago. (B, D)

DAY 10: SANTIAGO / U.S.A.
Depart after breakfast for the airport and flight to Madrid where we change planes for our flight to the U.S.A. Arrive home the same day. (B)
