Day 1: Depart from USA
Depart JFK or Newark airport. Enjoy dinner served aboard overnight flight.
Day 2: Rome / Florence
Arrive where the group will be met by the tour guide and transferred to the hotel in Florence. Welcome dinner and overnight in Florence. (D)
Day 3: Florence
After breakfast enjoy a guided tour of Florence the cultural heart of Italy. The tour highlights include the Duomo and Baptistry designed by Giotto as well as Santa Croce, the famous church where Dante, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and many others who played an important role throughout the history of Italy are buried. Also visit the famous statue of David by Michelangelo. Dinner and overnight in Florence. (B, D)
Day 4: Florence / San Gimignano / Cascia
Depart Florence in the morning for a visit to San Gimignano, one of the most beautiful hill towns in Tuscany, and visit the Church of Sant'Agostino, famous for its 15th century fresco cycle depicting the life of St. Francis. Also see the surviving medieval towers that are a part of this city's claim to fame. Continue to Cascia, the town associated with St. Rita. Visit the shrine and Augustinian monastery devoted to her. Dinner and overnight in Cascia. (B, D)
Day 5: Cascia
In the morning depart for a trip to the town of Roccaporena, the birthplace of St. Rita. Roccaporena is known to have existed since the Middle Ages: in 1381 Saint Rita of Cascia was born here. The scoglio di Santa Rita ("Rock of St. Rita") is traditionally believed to be the place where she prayed. Roccaporena is also the site of the saint's house (dating to the 14th century, with the adjoining Orto del Miracolo ("Miracle Orchard"), and the 13th-century church of San Montano, where St. Rita married. Enjoy a free afternoon in Cascia for private devotion, exploration of the city and relaxation. Dinner on your own and overnight in Casica. (B)
Day 6: Cascia/ Assisi
Depart after breakfast for Assisi, the town associated with beloved St. Francis. Upon arrival enjoy a tour that will include visits to the Basilica of St. Francis (view the exquisite artwork of Giotto), Convent of St. Clare, and Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels with Portiuncula chapel. Dinner and overnight in Assisi. (B, D)
Day 7: Assisi / Rome
Depart Assisi after breakfast for Rome. Upon arrival enjoy a tour of Rome and from the motorcoach view some of the sites related to Ancient Rome including the Forum, the Arch of Constantine and Capitoline Hill. Visit the Colosseum, and also see the Pantheon, the world famous Spanish Steps, and one of Rome’s great landmarks, the Trevi Fountain. A highlight of the tour will be visits to three of the four major basilicas of Rome including St. John Lateran, St. Paul Outside the Walls and St. Mary Major (the fourth basilica being St. Peter’s Basilica). Visit also to the Church of St. Peter in Chains and see the famous artwork of Da Vinci. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B, D)
Day 8: Rome
Attend the Papal Audience in the morning (depending upon the Holy Father's schedule), one of the highlights of the pilgrimage. Afterwards enjoy a guided tour of magnificent St. Peter's Basilica as well as a visit to the Vatican Museums. Dinner on your own and overnight in Rome. (B)
Day 9: Rome
Enjoy a full free day in Rome to explore the city, go shopping or relax. Farewell dinner and overnight in Rome. (B, D)
Day 10: Rome / U.S.
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel depart for return flight to the U.S. (B)
