DAY 1 DEPART USA (Requires Monday departure)
Depart today on our overnight flight to Venice. Meals will be served on board the flight.

DAY 2: ARRIVE ROME
Upon arrival in Rome you will be met by the Tour Escort and transferred by motorcoach to the hotel. Dinner and overnight in the “Eternal City”. (D)

DAY 3: ROME (PAPAL AUDIENCE – Requires a Wednesday stay)
The group will attend one of the highlights of the trip, the Papal Audience (if available). This afternoon we have a half-day tour “Ancient” Rome. Discover the locations where the Eternal City was born: from Piazza Venezia to the Roman Forum up to the stately and massive structure of the Coliseum. Visit the Coliseum. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Rome. (B)

DAY 4: ROME / NORCIA / ROME
Depart this morning to visit the town of Norcia (Nursia in ancient times), the birthplace of St. Benedict. Visit the Cathedral with its monks of the Monastery. Return to Rome for dinner and overnight. (B, D)

DAY 5: ROME / MONTE CASSINO / ROME
Depart Rome in the early morning for a full day excursion to the monastery founded by St. Benedict in the 5th and 6th century.  Monte Cassino sits on an impressive hill overlooking the town of Cassino. Learn of the monastery’s World War II history. Return to Rome for dinner and overnight. (B, D)

DAY 6: ROME / SUBIACO / ROME
Today we drive east to the town of Subiaco along the River Aniene. At Subiaco visit the Abbazia di Santa Scolastica and Monastero di San Benedetto, a complex of two churches, chapels and other buildings on the site of St. Benedict’s cave – the SacroSpeco.  St. Benedict became a monk and, for three years, lived in this cave. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B, D)

DAY 7: ROME
This morning’s tour takes you to Vatican City to visit the Vatican Museums and Gallery, Raphael’s Rooms, and the Sistine Chapel with its recently renovated ceiling frescoes by Michelangelo, followed by a tour of St. Peter’s Basilica. This afternoon, visit the three other major basilicas of Rome: St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran, and St. Paul Outside the Walls, which contains the tomb of St. Paul. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Rome. (B)

DAY 8: ROME / USA
Depart for the Rome Airport in the morning and arrive in the U.S. same day. (B)
